CNAME Record
Read more about CNAME records, when they are necessary and how they can fit within the DNS system.
If you would like to direct a domain that you have to some other domain address or subdomain, one way to do that would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain being pointed loses all of its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it's redirected to. That way, if you use a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be directed to the site that you have created, but it will also be displayed in the web browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to forward all the visitors from different subdomains to their main Internet domain, or to use the webmail service of your hosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for example. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain since such a record created for the main domain address renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Website Hosting
If you have a website hosting plan from our company and you wish to set up a CNAME record, it will take you a few mouse clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted within your account through the Hepsia CP included with each and every plan and adding a new record is as simple as clicking on a button, selecting the type, which is CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the modification. In case you have never added this kind of record before, you will discover a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can just contact us and we'll aid you with this task. If you have created a website via another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different company, like Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a couple of mouse clicks inside your Control Panel.
- CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with every single one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, allows you to set up a CNAME record effortlessly. Whether you want to create a private URL for your emails, to forward a domain address to a subdomain in the account or to forward a domain address to another provider and use some third-party service that they provide, it will not take you more than three clicks to create this kind of record. All DNS records for the domains and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the CP, so once you are there, all you will have to do will be to choose the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then type in the actual record text. For your convenience, you can see a short video in the CP regarding how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that's available in the DNS records section. - CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting
